We’re starting the new year strong with Open Access Helper 2025.2, introducing a powerful new feature to help researchers identify retracted scientific papers with ease. Here’s what’s new in this version:
New Feature: Retraction Watch Integration
Stay informed and avoid citing retracted papers! Open Access Helper now integrates Retraction Watch data to highlight retracted scientific papers.
How It Works:
Web Browsers:
- When you come across a DOI linked to a retracted paper, Open Access Helper will display a badge on the right side of the screen.
- The badge provides a direct link to the Retraction Watch Blog or the official database entry for detailed information.
- The tool bar icon will also update to visually indicate a retraction.
iOS & iPadOS:
- On mobile platforms, the retracted status will be determined using the is_retracted value from the OpenAlex data model.
- Similar visual indications will alert you when a paper is flagged as retracted.
Powered By:
This feature is made possible by the Retraction Watch database, which provides open and free access to their data via CrossRef’s GitLab repository. We extend our gratitude to both Retraction Watch and CrossRef for their generosity and commitment to open science.
Other Improvements
- Performance optimizations for smoother browsing and enhanced compatibility.
- Bug fixes and minor UI enhancements for an improved user experience.
Thank you for supporting Open Access Helper! Your feedback is invaluable, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enhance your research workflow.
